The call to “look like Jesus” is a guiding light for every believer. But what does it truly mean to look like Jesus? How do we reflect His character in our daily lives? The Bible gives us clear instructions on how to follow in His footsteps, mirroring His love, humility, and righteousness.

1. Looking Like Jesus Means Walking in Love
Jesus exemplified perfect love in all He did. He loved the unlovable, healed the brokenhearted, and extended mercy to the repentant. The Bible reminds us:
"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." (John 13:35)
To look like Jesus, we must be people of love—not just in words but in action. Loving our neighbors, forgiving our enemies, and serving those in need are all reflections of Christ’s love at work in us.
2. Looking Like Jesus Means Walking in Humility
Jesus, the King of Kings, humbled Himself to serve others. He washed the feet of His disciples, demonstrating that true greatness comes from servanthood. Paul echoes this call in Philippians 2:5-8:
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."
If we want to look like Jesus, we must lay aside pride, seek to serve rather than to be served, and embrace humility in all we do.
3. Looking Like Jesus Means Walking in Righteousness
Jesus lived a life without sin, fully obedient to the will of the Father. The Bible commands us:
"Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48)
While we are imperfect people, the righteousness of Christ is imputed to us when we surrender to Him. Looking like Jesus means daily striving to walk in holiness, keeping His commandments, and turning away from sin.
4. Looking Like Jesus Means Speaking Truth
Jesus was not afraid to speak the truth, even when it was unpopular. He boldly declared the Word of God, called sinners to repentance, and stood firm against hypocrisy. As followers of Christ, we are called to do the same:
"Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth." (John 17:17)
Looking like Jesus means standing for truth, sharing the gospel, and living according to the unchanging Word of God.
5. Looking Like Jesus Means Seeking the Will of the Father
Throughout His life, Jesus was fully submitted to the will of the Father. He prayed fervently, sought God’s direction, and obeyed even when it led to suffering. He declared:
"Not my will, but thine, be done." (Luke 22:42)
To look like Jesus, we must surrender our own desires and seek the will of God above all else. This means spending time in prayer, studying His Word, and being led by the Holy Spirit.
6. Looking Like Jesus Means Being a Light in Darkness
Jesus declared:
"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid." (Matthew 5:14)
Just as Christ brought light into a dark world, we are called to shine His light through our actions, words, and the way we love others. Looking like Jesus means being a beacon of hope, pointing others to the Savior.
A Final Encouragement
Looking like Jesus is not about physical appearance but about the transformation of our hearts. It is a lifelong journey of becoming more like Him—through love, humility, righteousness, truth, obedience, and light. When we commit ourselves to this walk, we will find joy, peace, and the assurance that we are fulfilling our divine purpose.
Let us strive daily to reflect Christ in all we do, so that when others see us, they may see Jesus in us.
"But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord." (2 Corinthians 3:18)
May we continue to grow in grace, seek His presence, and truly look like Jesus in a world that desperately needs Him. Amen.
