The Right Walk: Walking with Jesus in a Dark World

There is a path of righteousness—a walk that leads to life, peace, and eternal joy. This walk is not one of mere religious observance but of daily, intentional companionship with Jesus Christ. The Bible calls this “walking in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16) and urges believers to separate themselves from the ways of the world (2 Corinthians 6:17).

What Makes Us Different When We Walk with Jesus?

Walking with Christ is more than professing belief; it transforms our entire being. The Scriptures provide a clear distinction between those who walk in the world and those who walk in the light of Christ:

  1. We Walk in the Light"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." – John 8:12The world walks in darkness, but the believer walks in the light of truth. This light exposes sin, directs our path, and gives us spiritual clarity.

  2. We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight"(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)" – 2 Corinthians 5:7The world is driven by what is seen—possessions, status, and temporary pleasures. But those in Christ are led by faith, trusting in God’s promises even when circumstances seem uncertain.

  3. We Walk in Love"And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour." – Ephesians 5:2The love of Christ sets us apart. In a world of selfishness and division, believers show unselfish, sacrificial love that mirrors Christ’s own love for the Church.

  4. We Walk in Obedience"If ye love me, keep my commandments." – John 14:15Obedience to God’s Word is what distinguishes us. Walking with Jesus means we willingly submit to His teachings, even when they challenge the culture or our personal desires.

  5. We Walk as a Peculiar People"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light." – 1 Peter 2:9The world may see us as different—strange even—but this is the beauty of being set apart for God’s purpose. Our lives should reflect holiness, humility, and a commitment to truth.

The Right Walk: Lessons from Ellen G. White

Ellen G. White often wrote about the importance of walking with Christ daily and the power of a transformed life. She reminds us that true faith is not passive but active.

“It is not enough to believe about Christ; we must believe in Him. The only faith that will benefit us is that which embraces Him as a personal Saviour; which appropriates His merits to ourselves. Many hold faith as an opinion. Saving faith is a transaction by which those who receive Christ join themselves in covenant relation with God.” – The Desire of Ages, p. 347

This means our walk with Christ is not a mere mental acknowledgment of truth, but a life-changing experience. It is a daily journey of surrender, trust, and obedience. She further warns against superficial Christianity:

"A profession of Christ without this deep love is mere talk, dry formality, and heavy drudgery." – Steps to Christ, p. 44

Those who truly walk with Christ do not merely talk about their faith—they live it. Their homes, their work, their words, and their actions all reflect that they are walking in step with their Savior.

Are You Walking the Right Walk?

Many claim to be followers of Christ, yet their lives remain unchanged. The right walk requires commitment, discipline, and dependence on God. Ask yourself:

  • Do my choices reflect that I am walking in the light?

  • Am I walking by faith, or do I still rely on worldly securities?

  • Is my life marked by love and obedience to God’s Word?

  • Do I stand out as peculiar, set apart for Christ?

The good news is that if you have strayed from the right path, Jesus is ready to walk with you again. His arms are open, inviting you to return to Him.

Final Encouragement

Walking with Jesus is not an easy path—it is the narrow way (Matthew 7:14). But it is the only path that leads to eternal life and true peace. The world may not understand us. Some may mock our faith, question our obedience, or resist the truth we stand for. But we are not alone. Christ walks beside us, leading us with His Word, strengthening us through His Spirit, and guiding us home.

Let us walk with boldness, set apart for His glory, and ready to shine His light in a dark world.

Will you choose the right walk today?

"He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked." – 1 John 2:6
